Basic Curriculum
Acting
Through exercises, improvisations and scene study the student
learns the importance of relaxation, concentration, involvement,
contact, sense memory and the development of the actors’
sense of truthful behavior in imaginary circumstances. (8
hours per week)
Voice and Speech
This course is designed to develop the speaking voice as an
instrument of communication on or off the stage. Beginning
with the basic principles of voice production, placement and
control, special emphasis is given to articulation, correct
intonation, stress and phrasing.
(4 hours per week)
Vocal Production
This course supplements the work in Voice and Speech, focusing
on the building of the vocal instrument. Through collective
and individual work on scales and songs, vocal problems are
identified and correction is begun. (2 hours per week)
Movement
This training includes basic dance techniques as applicable
to various styles of acting. Exercises are given for the development
of imagination, coordination and awareness of the body as
an instrument of the actor. (2 hours per week) .
Class Schedule & Electives
Classes in the basic curriculum meet Monday through Thursday
for four hours a day. Students are placed in a session meeting
from 9am to 1pm or from 2pm to 6pm. Class placement is at
the discretion of the Director of Instruction.
In addition to the basic curriculum, the Academy offers, at
additional cost, an exciting selection of elective courses
at each campus. Electives range from Musical Theatre Workshop
to Fencing, and may include such additional offerings as Acting
for the Camera, improvisation, Shakespeare and Audition Techniques, depending on demand.
Some electives are held on Fridays. Ask the Admissions Office
at the campus to which you are applying for a complete list
of offerings.
Admission Information
Application requirement
A signed and completed application form must be received by
the Admissions Office along with a $50.00 application fee. Applicants under 18 need a parent or guardian to sign as well.
Audition and Interview
An audition/interview will be scheduled upon receipt of the completed application form and application fee. The required audition consists of the delivery from memory of two contrasting monologues (one comedic and one dramatic) from published plays (one period and one contemporary) of up to two minutes each. Choose monologues close to age and experience. A list of suggested plays, divided into period and contemporary, are available here. Selections are not limited to this list. The monologues must be from published plays, and candidates should read the entire play from which the excerpt has been taken. Candidates may audition at either the New York or California campus, and auditions may also be arranged in various cities throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.
Photographs
Two passport-sized (2"x2") photographs are required
no later than the day of the audition. The photographs are
for identification purposes and should represent a full face
image.
Housing
Once an application is received, the Admissions Office will work with each applicant to advise on housing arrangements. Suggested residences are not owned or maintained by the Academy, and most will not accept persons under 18. Therefore, students under the age of 18 will need to secure housing with friends or relatives.

Requests for refunds must be addressed to the Director of Admissions and received no later than June 28. No refunds will be granted after classes have begun.

Registration Accepted students must return registration forms with full payment of tuition and fees no later than June 25.

Regulation
Students enrolled in the Summer Program are not permitted to participate in rehearsals, performances or acting classes outside the Academy’s program to insure that they receive the maximum benefit from Academy training.
