7. What kinds of scholarships are available?
First Year students are eligible for merit-based scholarships
determined by their audition
and application. Second Year Students may apply for scholarships
through the Financial Aid Office.
8. When should I begin applying for financial aid?
Students should file the Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA) as early as possible.
9. What other kinds of aid are available if I do not qualify
for federal need-based assistance?
Students that do not qualify for federal assistance in the form
of grants and loans are encouraged to research and pursue outside
scholarships and alternative loans.
10. Are international students
eligible for federal financial assistance?
Not in the United States, but they may qualify with in their
own countries.
11. Can I work on campus?
U.S. students are eligible to participate in federal work- study
programs.
12. Since AADA does not have
on campus housing, what services does it provide for housing
assistance?Housing
13. Do I need a car?
No, students are able to get around using buses, taxis, subways
and rail systems in the New York City and Los Angeles areas.
However, students attending the Los Angeles campus may find life
easier if they have a car, but it is not absolutely necessary.
Parking for Los Angeles students is provided on campus.
14. Can I attend school at both
the campus in New York and the campus in Los Angeles? Students
are permitted to attend their First Year at one campus and transfer
for their Second Year at the other campus, providing they have
been invited for the Second Year and the transfer has been approved
by the Director of Instruction at the campus the student wishes
to transfer to.
15. How is the decision made
to invite a student back for the Second Year?
Selection is made on the basis of progress, potential and readiness
to benefit from advanced trainingas evidenced in the class
work and examination plays of the First Year.
16. What degrees are available
and can I continue on into a BA or BFA program?
For information on current AADA degrees at each campus and credit
transfers, please click Degrees.
Some Academy students chose to continue on to for their BA,
BFA or MFA at some of the finest colleges and universities throughout
the world. Because the Academy is an accredited two-year college,
credits earned can be transferred to these four-year colleges and universities,
and they determine the amount and placement of transferred credits.
17. Can I audition for plays,
films and commercials while attending the Academy?
During the academic year, students are expected to devote their
full attention to their studies, and attendance in all Academy
classes is mandatory. Therefore, it is not in a students
best interest and against school policy for students to audition
while attending the Academy.
18. What about campus security
on-campus crime?
Statistics are maintained by the Academy in compliance with
the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990, and are
made available to all enrolled students and to other inquiries
upon request. In the 2004-05 school year there were no crimes
(rape, murder, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary) at the
Academy. Further, there were no arrests of students on campus
for liquor law violations, drug abuse or possession of weapons.
The entrance to each campus is supervised at all times by a
security guard and no one is admitted to the campus or building
without being properly identified.
